I. In response to the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal of reducing food waste by 50% in retail and consumers by 2030, and to maximize the value of ingredients as much as possible, the Bureau will organize the 2023 Taipei City "First Cherish Chef" Championship. Registration will be open from March 24 (Friday) to June 15 (Thursday) at 12:00 PM. The competition is divided into the "Food Waste Cooking Recipe Group" and the "Food Waste Teaching Plan Group." The top three in each group will receive prize money, and the first-place winner in each group will represent Taipei City in the national competition organized by the Environmental Protection Administration. This "First Cherish Chef" selection event will be divided into two stages: preliminary and final. The preliminary review will be a written assessment conducted in early July, and the shortlisted candidates will be announced on the official website of the Taipei City Environmental Protection Bureau and the "Taipei City Open-Air Environmental Education Museum Website" on July 7 (Friday). The final review will be held on July 22 (Saturday) at Taipei George Technical Vocational High School, where winners will be selected through practical demonstrations. The final review for this competition is briefly described as follows:

(I) For the "Food Waste Cooking Recipe Group," the final review will involve on-site cooking based on the materials submitted in the preliminary round. The Taipei City Environmental Protection Bureau will provide designated ingredients, and waste ingredients will be weighed as an additional bonus item. The less waste ingredients, the more bonus points.

(II) For the "Food Waste Teaching Plan Group," the final review will require on-site teaching demonstrations based on the submitted materials. The teaching plan must be designed for 4 hours and incorporate 10 food waste reduction actions. The aim is to lead the public to a better understanding of the importance of food waste reduction through the courses. The top three in each group will receive prize money and certificates. Additionally, the first-place winner in each group will represent Taipei City in the national finals.
