2025 Summer "U.S. Department of State Chinese Language Scholarship Program" Seeking Taiwanese Host Families

I. The students and their stay duration in Taiwan for the scholarship programs are as follows:
(I) U.S. Department of State National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) High School Program: Students are expected to study in Taiwan from late June 2025 to mid-August 2025.
(II) U.S. Department of State Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) Program for University Students: Students are expected to study in Taiwan from mid-June 2025 to mid-August 2025.
(III) U.S. TISLP Taiwan Intensive Summer Language Program: Students are expected to experience homestay from July 19 to July 20, 2025.
(IV) Tamkang University Navigator Program and University of Mississippi Navigator Program: Students are expected to experience homestay (without overnight stay) on July 19, 2025.

II. To promote cultural exchange between American students studying in Taiwan and local Taiwanese people, and to cultivate their ability to use Mandarin Chinese in daily life, we are specifically seeking Taiwanese families who are interested in learning about American culture and are willing to open their homes to provide daily homestay reception for American students. This also offers Taiwanese host families an opportunity to learn about different customs and cultures with foreign students.

III. The selection criteria for host families are as follows:
(I) Homestay period: From mid-June 2025 to mid-August 2025 (flexible selection available).
(II) Host students: NSLI-Y high school students, CLS university students, TISLP university students, Tamkang University Navigator Program university students, University of Mississippi Navigator Program university students.
(III) Homestay location: Taipei City and New Taipei City (preferably Tamsui, Guandu, Beitou, Shilin).
(IV) Hosting requirements: Provide students with a private room or a single bed (bunk beds are also acceptable), meals during the homestay period, and arrange family outings with the students.

IV. Host family subsidy amounts:
(I) NSLIY (High School Students): Approximately six weeks of hosting, NT$1,200 per day (including meals and outings).
(II) CLS (University Students): Option to host the first 3 weeks of Group A or the last 3 weeks of Group B, NT$1,200 per day (including meals).
(III) TISLP (University Students): July 19 to July 20, 2025, NT$2,400 in total (including meals and outings).
(IV) Tamkang University Navigator Program, University of Mississippi Navigator Program (University Students): July 19, 2025, NT$600 in total (including outings).

V. Homestay family and online information session (7:00 PM on January 20, 2025) registration website:https://reurl.cc/363z4V, families considering participation can attend the online information session before deciding whether to register. Families interested in providing homestay space must first fill out information on the registration website. Staff will review the family's information and arrange an on-site visit to the homestay location, after which the accepted and waitlisted families will be notified separately.
